Ruts to Remarkable, A 20-Year Driveway Reset
After two decades, this homeowner finally decided to tackle a project she had been putting off. We turned a rutted, flood-prone driveway into one she actually wants to use.

After more than two decades, this homeowner decided it was finally time to tackle a project she had been putting off. Years of weather and traffic had left her driveway full of deep ruts, and when it rained, water pooled in spots that should have shed it years ago.
The problem
The original driveway still had some bones, but the surface had given up. Twenty years of freeze, thaw, and runoff had buried what was left of the base under loose fines and silt. Two low spots near the house were holding water against the foundation every storm.
What we did
We started by scraping the surface back to something stable, then re-shaped the grade to move water away from the house and out toward the existing ditch line. New road base over the prepared subgrade, compacted properly, with a finish layer of clean gravel on top.
The low spots near the house got special attention, we built up the grade just enough to redirect runoff without changing the look, and added a small swale on the uphill side to catch what comes down off the slope.
How it held up
The owner told us this is the first spring in twenty years she has not had standing water near the foundation. The surface is tight, the drainage works, and the driveway looks like it belongs to the house again.
