From Muddy Jeep Trail to Smooth Driveway
For one local homeowner, winter and springtime meant fighting in and out of his driveway. Deep ruts, sticky mud, and an obstacle course every commute. We rebuilt it from the subgrade up.

For this homeowner, winter and spring meant more than cold weather, it meant a daily fight to get in and out of his own driveway. The original surface had turned into an obstacle course of deep ruts and sticky mud, and the wettest months made it borderline impassable.
The problem
The driveway had been built on native soil with no real base. Every freeze-thaw cycle and every wet week pushed the surface around, and the heavier the truck, the deeper the ruts. By the time we got out to look, it was less a driveway and more a jeep trail.
What we did
We pulled the soft material off the top and brought the subgrade back to a consistent shape. From there we rebuilt the structure with a proper aggregate base, compacted in lifts so the surface would actually carry the load it sees every day.
We finished with a crowned gravel surface that drains to both shoulders, and tightened the entry where it meets the road so water from the road can no longer dump onto the driveway.
How it held up
The owner has been through one full winter and one mud season on it now, and the surface still reads flat. No ruts, no soft spots, no mud. The driveway does the job it was supposed to do in the first place.
